Each press of the SPKR key toggles speakerphone mode on or off. The
“SPKR LED”, located immediately ABOVE the SPKR key, indicates speakerphone
mode status. Whenever “SPKR LED” is on, speakerphone mode is enabled.
Note that speakerphone mode can be turned on or off at any time by pressing SPKR
key, even while handset is off-hook during a call.
SPKR
key operation while handset is in cradle:
To answer or dial a call using the speakerphone, press SPKR key while handset is
in cradle. The LED light above the SPKR key will light up, speaker
will turn on, and phone will go "off-hook." Dial or talk
normally. To end a speakerphone call, press SPKR again. The SPKR LED
light will turn off, and phone will hang up. To switch from speakerphone
to handset at any time during a call, simply lift the handset. Note that
the SPKR LED will shut off at this time. If the handset is replaced in the
cradle while the SPKR LED light is off, the phone will hang up, and your
call will end. To switch from handset back to speakerphone without hanging
up, first press SPKR. The SPKR LED light will turn on. Then replace
handset in cradle, and continue the call on speakerphone.
SPKR
key operation while handset is out of cradle:
If the SPKR LED light is on, returning handset to cradle will switch the current
phone call over to the speakerphone. If the SPKR LED is off, returning
handset to cradle will hang up on the current call.
Tips
on using the speakerphone:
The speakerphone is a “half-duplex” speakerphone. This means it is
possible to either talk or listen over the speakerphone, but not both at the
same time. Avoid speaking while the distant party is talking.
Position the phone within arms length and with the small microphone hole on the
front of the phone facing the telephone user. Do not cover up the
microphone hole, on the front of the telephone, while using the speakerphone.
In extremely noisy locations, it is better to use the handset.
Usage
of MUTE key:
The MUTE key controls the microphones in both speakerphone and handset.
Each press of MUTE toggles the microphones and the MUTE LED light (located
immediately above MUTE key) on or off. Whenever the MUTE LED light is
illuminated, all microphones are OFF, and you will be able to hear the party at
the other end of your call, but they will not be able to hear you.
MUTE is particularly useful for listening to prompts,
voice mail, and other incoming audio while on speakerphone. This
speakerphone is half-duplex. As with all half duplex speakerphones, this
means it can sometimes be hard to hear the distant party over the speakerphone
if the phone itself is in a noisy environment. This happens because any
local background noises picked up by the telephone may interrupt the incoming
sound. But by placing the phone in MUTE mode, even weak sounds from the
distant party can still be heard clearly in the speakerphone without any
interruption.
