and Data Installation Instructions
This document does not take
the place of contract documents. This
document is intended as a technician’s general information guide to Boise State
installation specifications.
The Contractor will field
survey and review with the Owner and Engineer similar installations on campus
that contain the same type of materials that are used for this Project to gain
the desired routing , layout, installation techniques, and finished-look prior
to start of constructions.
Do Not
- use plastic zip ties
- crush the cable
- kink, knot or snag the cable while pulling
- exceed the recommended pulling tension
- exceed the minimum bend of 4 x Outside
Diameter (OD) for 4 pair UTP, 10 x OD for multi pair (more than 4 pair)
UTP, 1.18 in. for two fiber cable, and 10 x OD for multi fiber cable
- untwist the pairs of cable beyond the
absolute minimum required for termination
- strip back cable jacket more than need for
termination
- exceed maximum cable lengths (295feet)
Copper Cable Installation
- Cable management panels will be used when
terminating cable.
- Cable must be neatly installed, combed in appearance.
- Provide strain relief for cables using
mechanical fasteners such as J-hooks, conduit, C-channel, and other
necessary devices to support cables around discontinuity. In exposed areas, support cables as
indicated on drawings.
Other
- Fiber must be securely anchored to the back
of the Fiber Termination Box
- Fan-Out Kits for fiber must be used. Heat shrink tubing must be used between
cable jacket and fiber tubs. Use of
tape is not allowed. Fiber must be
neat in appearance in Fiber Termination Box.
- Velcro must be used to secure cables (NO
plastic zip ties are allowed).
- All riser penetrations must be sleeved with
EMT and a set screw connector with plastic bushing.
- All other sleeves and conduit ends must have
a plastic bushing on end.
- Labeling for all items installed must comply
with project specifications and Boise
State University
labeling standards.
- Contractor shall keep a detailed up-to-date
record of the manner and location in which all installations are actually
made.

testing are listed in the contact documents.
