Mission

Provide a stable and reliable Telephone and Network System, which has the confidence of users and management.  Be the University’s top level of File Server support, servicing both Academic and Administrative needs.  

Goals

Integrate the Project Access/PeopleSoft solution into the Boise State community

bulletContinue to support Project Access integration at the user, community, and server platform level.

Continue support for administrative analysis with the new PeopleSoft systems.

Install new client/server equipment to support Project Access.

Provide and improve the ability to communicate and schedule for Boise State employees

Improve the reliability of GroupWise and provide a stable Web client platform.

Provide a secure and reliable network infrastructure – plan for the future and provide a fault tolerant base for the applications that Boise State relies upon

Enhance backup and restoration plans for the recovery of data on Unix, NT and Novell servers on ADSM.  Develop a Backup Plan – per University Standards that addresses the minimum backup requirements for all University data.  This will include cross training of personnel.

Bring all Computing Services server to compliance with Boise State Server Standards

bullet

Upgrade all Computing Services servers to latest operating levels.

Separate and protect privacy data from the Internet through the use of firewalls and separate networks (private and public).

Enhance computer security in our client/server environment.

Integrate the IT Infrastructure upgrade into the Boise State network.

Implement a switched-port policy (for new equipment) to improve connectivity.

Maintain a quality work environment and attract and keep exceptional employees

Create an environment that is pro-family and where people enjoy coming to work.

Support Boise State flex-place work-at-home personnel.

Continue to develop skills for staff to help with retention and job satisfaction.

Provide competent computer support to Boise State employees.  Provide third level support to the college and department support personnel.

Train personnel to support WinNT.

Provide additional training to Help Desk staff in networking skills and GroupWise support.

Certify personnel in industry standard certification programs.

Continue to develop skills for installation, problem solving and support for PeopleSoft systems.

Support Web development and new technologies to reduce costs and improve efficiency

Integrate more of Boise State business on the Web and interface with the new PeopleSoft systems.

Move management of network equipment onto Web platforms.  Initiate a Web based logging system to track equipment and services downtime.

Use point-to-point wireless technology to reduce line-charges for buildings not connected to the campus proper.

Use wireless technology to provide laptop connectivity to students and faculty.

Support the Integration of Telephone and Network Operations and Services

Create a cohesive Telephone and Network team.

Work to resolve space problems, to increase productivity and improve moral.

Install test platforms of IP Phones at the University.  Develop a five-year plan for the move towards the integration of telephones on networks.

Increase the use of Automated Attendant on incoming 800 numbers and on-campus “0” dial to decrease the workload on telephone operators.  Review the use of Automated Attendant for other dial groups.

Improve the business of providing telephone services at Boise State

Eliminate redundant operations and manual tasks.  Increase the use of software and electronic features to automate the bill notification and fund transfer for all Telephone and Network Billing.

Create a single place for requesting data lines and phone lines.  Automate the creation of the work orders, updating the status and the billing of work performed.
